Development Booms In New Rochelle - The City Gets Its Big Makeover!

My third blog gave a succinct overview of all the needed and exciting development happening in New Rochelle’s expanding downtown area. Now, I’d like give you the latest on the all-encompassing construction still going strong in our city.  With industry masters such as Louis Cappelli, RXR, Young Companies, CAC Realty and more leading the charge, the city is undergoing a celebrated real estate evolution like its never seen. The city with nine miles of coastline and beautiful waterfront estates has played home to many prominent residents over the years. People like Jazz legend Brandford Marsalis, Anchorwoman Andrea Mitchell, CNN U.S. chieftain Jonathan Klein, Jacob Leiser and more. New Rochelle’s blossoming downtown now features completed luxury residential apartment buildings that have graciously added to the city’s skyline. Several continue to break ground and have been completed as we go to print.

The real estate fireworks began years ago when seasoned virtuoso and pioneer Louis Cappelli laid forth the groundwork and inspiration for New Rochelle and raised up the stylish Trump Plaza. But Mr. Cappelli did not stop there as New Roc City and The Lofts At New Roc came triumphantly into our fine city to much applause. The Standard, Mr. Cappelli's newest offering is a 14-story magnificent piece of architecture that has been very well received in town.  The Cappelli Organization describes it as micro lux living and The Standard certainly lives up to that great appellation. It's full of elegant studio, one and two bedroom tasteful apartments. It’s historic value is great as the site it was erected on was once the home of the much respected Standard Star Newspaper. More upscale living in our city will come from Dr. Robert Leaf. His 20 Burling Lane "The Millennia" apartments are under construction and will resonate with high tech amenities including a 24 hour concierge, personal assistants who will walk your pets, clean your car, and help with grocery shopping. No stone has been left unturned at The Millennia. The six-story building will feature high speed WiFi in all apartments and common areas, and 110 units that are accessed with a smartphone app.

Up town, the under construction The Rockwell, New Rochelle based Young Companies latest offering, will be available for leasing in 2021 and officially ready for living in 2022. The structure features 135,000 sf of living space and the five-story building was named after highly renowned painter Norman Rockwell who resided and worked in New Rochelle. The $60 million site is slated to boast 114 apartments ranging from studios to three bedrooms. 14 Lecount Place will serve the city, one of the few, with affordable housing options downtown. The building will be two 27-story towers and is a mixed income rental entity that offers 511 units and approximately a quarter for lower cost living. 14 Lecount Place will also be rich in prime amenities that include: a library,  gym, lounge, game room and artists' workspace. At the November 22nd ground-breaking, Mayor Noam Bramson cited, "Yet another major downtown development milestone with the ground-breaking of 14 Lecount."

Projects that have been completed and are now leasing include The six-story The Printhouse at 165 Huguenot Street, The Hammel 1 at 32 Burling Lane, The Hammel 2 at 42 Burling Lane, The Lombardi mixed use development at 11 Park Place, 360 Huguenot, a 28-story masterpiece located at the former Loews Theater, and several more. The Holiday Inn Express is on schedule and under construction with eight-stories. Also on the cutting board and planned to go up is NewRo Studios, a six-story, 73 unit building with a luxurious twist. On the beautiful sound you will find the much talked about and well planned, Watermark Pointe luxury condominiums featuring nine seperate buildings at 700 Davenport Avenue . The structures feature three-bedroom magnificent, lavish residences, ranging from 2,400 to 2,700 s/f each. The early buzz is that Watermark Point will be among one of the most sought after addresses in town. They have already been the recipient of stellar press and rave reviews. To keep up with all the latest construction, Karen and John Hessel's website newrochelledevelopment.com is the bible on all this. It is precise and right on target. With over 20 new, cutting-edge residential apartment buildings scheduled as part of the city's new look,  it's safe to say that rich in history New Rochelle will soon have an even more distinguishable skyline.
